American, b. 1979 — MaryKate Maher is a visual artist from Brooklyn, NY. She works in both sculpture and collage. Her practice is rooted in an enduring interest in landscape, geological phenomenon, and improvised forms of site-markings. Throughout her works gradients play with the viewer’s sense of volume and dimension, and the repetition of specific forms create a unique visual grammar. Maher received her MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She also studied at the Glasgow School of Art and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Maher has received fellowships from Franconia Sculpture Park, New York Foundation for the Arts, The MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, A.I.R. Gallery and Socrates Sculpture Park. Exhibitions have included Gold/Scopophilia, NJ, A.I.R. Gallery,NY, Tiger Strikes Asteroid,NY, Interstate Projects,NY, The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, PA, NURTUREart,NY, and Franconia Sculpture Park, MN. Her work has been written about in Artsy, Brooklyn Magazine, Hyperallergic, L Magazine and BOMB.
