Artist Kathryn Kenworth

Kathryn Kenworth

Oakland, CA, USA

American,   —   The work I do almost always uses recycled materials and ranges from collage, drawing, sculpture, installation and social practice projects. In all my pieces, I skew consumer roles and question ideas of value or exchange. What if instead of buying, we consume imagery in another way? Putting familiar materials into unexpected settings creates a different understanding of marketing and consumption in favor of more meaningful exchange. Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA , I received my BFA from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Later, I moved to Northern California where I received my MFA from Mills College in Oakland, CA where I still live and work. I have exhibited my work in galleries, museums, universities, storefront windows, parking lots and art fairs. I have attended several artist residencies including the Headlands Center for the Arts CA, MacDowell Colony NH, Bundaon, Australia and Au Bout du Plongeoir France. Additionally, I have received grants from the Pollock Krasner Foundation NY, the Leon Levy Foundation NY, Awesome Foundation CA and Théâtre à l´envers France in support of the work I do.
