J Myszka Lewis

Madison, WI, USA

American, b. 1988   —   J Myszka Lewis is a visual artist that uses print media, photographic images, textiles, and embroidery to metaphorically depict the body and illustrate relationships between singular items and their plural entities. In addition to her individual studio practice, Lewis is also one third of SPOOKY BOOBS, a collaboration with Amy Cannestra and Maggie Snyder. SPOOKY BOOBS uses visual art and design to visualize the trivialization of women's experiences. The work is manifested in social interactions, installations, and printed materials. J Myszka Lewis received her MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2015. She has participated in many group exhibitions at places such as the International Print Center New York (New York, NY), the Charles Allis Art Museum (Milwaukee, WI), the Soap Factory (Minneapolis, MN), the Museum of Wisconsin Art (West Bend, WI), the Trout Museum of Art (Appleton, WI), and the Chazen Museum of Art (Madison, WI). She has participated in residencies at the Jentel Foundation in Banner, Wyoming and the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska City, Nebraska. She has been a finalist for a Luminarts Cultural Foundation Visual Arts Fellowship and the Hopper Prize. In 2018, she received the Edna Wiechers Art in Wisconsin Award from the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Division of the Arts.
