b. 1949 — Irit Ovadia Rosenberg’s work reflects the social and political dilemmas of our world. Inspired by the qualities of the clay with which she works, she creates works both abstract and realistic. Complementing the clay, she juxtaposes various metals, wood, and discarded objects. Through this narrative she conveys her concerns and raises awareness about the human condition. She has recently expanded her practice to include historic icons, modern images, and decorative metaphors within her ceramics works – uniting them to form sculptures with many voices. Her most recent series, "Escapism" (2021) comes as she returns to the studio after a tumultuous year, finding new meaning in her familiar materials. Seeking calm, she creates moments of joyful reflection, repurposing materials she had thought she might be done with.
