Artist Irina Alimanestianu

Irina Alimanestianu

New York

Irina Alimanestianu is a painter who was raised in New York, Switzerland, and France. She has spent much of her adult life between Eastern Long Island, NY and Venice, California. Being by the ocean is central to her work. Irina's abstract paintings are a sensory reading of her surroundings; their past and present, the vibrational tones of the natural landscapes, the seasonal light, and the towns and cities where she lives. Alimanestianu took a circuitous route to her practice as an artist. Initially delving into the mechanics of the material world, learning about man made constructs, and then moving on to a more spiritual and sensual experience and expression of life. Irina received an MBA from Columbia Business School in Manhattan in 1989 and an MFA in painting from Claremont Graduate School in California in 1998. Her work has been shown in museums such as the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, the Jones Center for Contemporary Art in Austin, Texas, and the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, New York. Her work is collected by numerous foundations and she has shown in New York City, Los Angeles, and Southampton, New York.
