American, b. 1981 — Hanna’s work in sculpture explores forms of perception, the visual in relation the verbal, and abstraction activated through the relationship to the body, awareness, and thresholds of sensory input. Pursuing and prolonging the process of perception is an aesthetic end in itself. She has used a defamiliarized material language to slow down looking. While sustained attention can easily makes one snowblind, alertness is the hidden discipline of familiarity. The loss of aesthetic perceptual fullness to automatization of perception is primarily what she would like to explore and restore in her work. Her first solo exhibition was with A.I.R. Gallery, a non-profit founded in 1972 advocating for women. She has since had a solo exhibition at Galerie Herve Bize in Nancy, France. Most recently, she had a two person exhibition with painter Jack Youngerman at Paris Internationalle. Andrianna Campbell also curated a work in a group exhbition “Vanishing Point” at James Cohan Gallery. She has exhibited in group shows at MOMA PS1, Situations Gallery, TSA Gallery, Invisible Exports, Nicelle Beauchene, Lisa Cooley, Churner and Churner, Mary Mary, Karma International, Leo Koenig Projekte, Cleopatra’s, S2 at Sotheby’s Auction House in New York, and Galerie Suzanne Tarasieve.
