American, b. 1957   —   Claire Watson is an American visual artist based on the east end of Long Island. Born in Amarillo, TX, she earned a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin in 1980, and an MFA at Tyler School of Art in Rome and Philadelphia in 1984. Watson's awards include an Artist Residency at The Watermill Center in 2020; a Residency Fellowship at the Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts in 2019, and a Studio Residency at MASS MoCA in 2018. She received a Fellowship in Sculpture from New York Foundation for the Arts in 2007; and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant in 1990. She has exhibited at The Heckscher Museum of Art; Southampton Arts Center; Site: Brooklyn; Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum, San Antonio, TX; Paul Robeson Galleries at Rutgers, Newark; Islip Art Museum; and Art in General, among other venues. Her work is in the permanent collections of The Heckscher Museum of Art and The Watermill Center, and in numerous private collections.
