Brit Krohmer

Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

American, b. 1990 — Brit Krohmer is a Milwaukee-based interdisciplinary artist and educator. Krohmer's work explores how objects float through time, appearing and disappearing, sharing the story of human history. They describe our flaws, rituals, movement, our insistence on understanding and transcending our bodies. She often contemplates what it would be like to experience an object or image that was expansive enough to contain a human experience. Would it be beautiful? Distressing? Euphoric? "The studio is a laboratory where I can study, compare and physically alter the social relationships between objects. Here there are tables of artifacts and images extracted from eBay, Craigslist ads, and abandoned industrial warehouses. These objects behave as relics. I mine them, extract their formal qualities and move them across media. I choose easily accessible materials and discover processes that allow them to exceed their original use and perform as priceless artifacts. I am ultimately concerned with hard-wired human instincts, and how the social lives of objects tell the complicated story of labor and human history."
