The Dream of The Magi, 2018

This photograph was taken near the Dead Sea in Israel during a sand storm. This series links the photographic process to the much older deeply human history of mark-making. The artist has poked the front of the print to create a bas relief. All photographers turn the 3D real world into a 2D image with their cameras. In this case, though, through cuts, bends, blasts, holes and carvings in the paper, a classic landscapes is bruised into a 3D object again. This is in a white wooden frame without glass/plexi to make the marks more visible. It is a unique handmade object.
