Description

This piece is from a body of work that is materializing contemporary photographic culture. Embracing accidents is a necessary and important way of working for Soren. Instead of a straight photograph, Soren has cut marks into the back of the image which is printed on very thick matte paper. She then presses the cuts forward so they stand out from the image, creating shadows onto the figure. Soren was taught the truth in photography arises from the belief in the “photographic moment.” The camera lens is the unmistakable eye: light traces on negative film deliver proof. But instead, Soren is adding light traces, scans, acrylic paint, and handmade markings on top of the prints in this series to explore ideas beyond the visible truth. This piece is framed without glass or plexi to make the 3D aspect of this piece more visible. It is a unique handmade object.
