These temporary works are created and documented as personal rituals, in solitude, often in remote locations. I install them in intimate relationship with specific light, weather and landforms, and explore my own embodied identity in relation to them. Some are spare self-portraits; renderings of abstracted, uncategorized being, known through vast ground. As a counterpart to my public works, which are offerings for others, I create these works for my own grounding and healing, claiming all parts of myself through perceptual encounters with vast space. After installing these works I spend time in a kind of personal performance with them. Each installation remains in a fixed position while I orient myself differently in relation to it and to the light and landforms. Through this ritual I am seeking the physiological and metaphysical interactions with space that align my experience of gender and queer identity in my body. It comes close to the quality of a ceremony, embodying feelings of anchoring, resonance and gratitude. These particular positions are documented as photographic perspectives. The photographs become the shared work and also archives of the rituals.
