Kaddish, 2020

The second 'Celestial Events' painting, 'Kaddish' was painted as the COVID pandemic raged as did the presidential election. A large work of great subtlety it is at once a geometric color abstraction as well as an ode to the dead and dying. There are eight circles arranged around a central illuminated void. The spheres are connected by an octagon which appears and disappears - is "seen and not seen" In kabbalistic teachings, the number seven symbolizes perfection – perfection that is achievable via natural means – while eight symbolizes that which is beyond nature and its (inherently limited) perfection.
