Hexagon no.3, 2018

Informed by cultural hybridity in postcolonial thought, this work expresses internal conflicts and anxieties that result when established cultural identities collide and rearrange. In multilayered paintings, patterns and elements inspired from the Islamic Mughal era in India, Victorian filigree of the British colonial era and contemporary Western pop culture, realign and rupture, opening up transitional spaces. Medium includes: plexiglass, paper, rubber string, acrylic adhesive, electrical tape, mica, paint marker and acrylic on canvas. This work was selected for the group exhibition at the School of Visual Art's Flat Iron gallery entitled "Cut + Paste". The exhibition was featured as an "Editors’ Picks: 17 Things Not to Miss in New York’s Art World This Week" by Artnet in 2019.
