The term weight also refers to social status/hierarchy on the street within the hip hop vernacular. In Gang Starr's song "Who's Gonna Take the Weight," the term refers to the concept of responsiblity. The multiple references Maynard explores in great detail while critiquing the Western art conception of portraiture.
