Description
After working for awhile with vernacular locations such as gardens and skate parks, I began to reduce - or, maybe, enlarge - my scope to an interrogation of the figure/ground relationship. I’ve been finding that this relationship can be applied to pretty much any duality, and invites a variety of oppositional combinations into the work. Whether symbiotic or hostile, the space between between these two elements provides a tension, which is echoed by the variety of mark making.
