Description

Edition 1 of 5. Most recently on view in exhibition Time Travelers at the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, New Paltz, New York, curated by Anastasia James. In this recent iteration of the ongoing series Priestess, I perform as a fictionalized priestess in the Joshua Tree desert. Playing with mythic and camp archetypes of women in nature—from silent film-era tramps to ancient queens—the Priestess enacts gestures and rituals that respond to the landscape. Here she is in profile, captured in melodramatic anguish. 1920’s silent film star and dancer Olive Ann Alcorn inspired the gesture. Please note that the photograph is currently unmounted and in exhibition framing. It is recommended to reframe this work with a white wood frame, 1” frame width, with no mat.
