Fort XXXIX, 2020

This series was started in Marseille, France, in early 2020. The medium was, in part, a response to the light of southern France. The making of these paintings has become an essential part of each day, a way to measure the time that paradoxically feels slow in the moment yet is simultaneously passing too fast. The title refers to the massive stone Fort St. Jean in Marseille.
