This work belongs to a series of images that I made in Oaxaca, Mexico, of interactions with Ixtle, the fibers of the Maguey. I use organic matter as a symbol of nature to create sensory experiences that highlight the beauty and ephemerality of life. The body functions as a material that transforms, a tool that activates matter and space, and as a symbol. I document these interactions through photographs that capture unscripted attempts to depict the body as a self-imagined “other.” This work is about place and identity as sites in constant change.
