“Embodied Objects” is a series of computerized Jacquard weavings. The frenetic patterns are formed from electromyography (EMG) data collected from the artist’s muscle movements as she performs different movements and actions in the studio. Levels of electricity detected through skin generate fluctuating values. This numerical data is visualized in custom software written by the artist to repeat, rotate, and randomly colorize the EMG waveforms to produce the final woven patterns. In this “Squint” piece, data was collected from the artist’s eye muscles while squinting. Embodied Objects (Squint) is in the collection of the Thoma Art Foundation and has been exhibited at CURRENTS New Media Festival (Santa Fe), Capsule Gallery (Houston), Arena 1 (Santa Monica), and Occurrence Gallery (Montréal). Edition 2 of 5
