Everglades, 2018

Ink and colored pencils on Mylar, Inspired by the wild nature at the Everglades, Florida I stripped down the nature to its abstract form and colors, in an attempt to capture the atmosphere of the reserve. My work often contains imagery and subject matters that I disconnect from its previous meaning and context, transforming them into an abstracted composition. Another reference for this paintings are hanging Chinese scrolls. The vertical format and the ink medium. My process begins by placing Mylar on flat surface and creating gestural marks with water on the Mylar. I then injects colored ink into the water allowing mixtures to form organically and adds colored pencil to the composition. I consider my process to be meditative, were I attempt to find and express the balance between control and freedom, the liquid forms on the surface.
