My Mashrabya, 2016

The two suspended laser woodcuts are formed from my ink drawings and oil paintings, emphasizing similarities in shape and structure existing in both nature and architecture. Correspond to elements of the Rosetta window, found in churches and reminiscent the diamond shapes and the arabesques and the mashrabya: ornamentation generally of wood on facades of edifices, typical of traditional Islamic architecture, was developed in order to create a separation between the interior and the exterior, which would allow air and light to enter the house, but would not harm privacy. Coming from a Mediterranean background I link the space with the eastern and western elements, creating an intercultural dialogue.
