Round painting, ink on Mylar attached to round Plexiglas. The painting is part of the installation A Moon in My Garden. This installation attends to the moon’s numerous qualities, which are either evident or concealed, and recaptures the influence of the moon on nature within the gallery space. A recurrent motif in this installation is the attempt to control both nature and the work of art. Ink paintings first developed in China and Japan, and were directly related to Buddhism and other Eastern philosophies, to which the themes of control and its loss are fundamental. I adhere to these traditions and do not attempt to document natural imagery, but rather to succinctly capture its spirit by means of fragile, ephemeral elements – water, pencils, and silhouettes. The installation’s title relates to my body of works as a whole, which revolves around nature and organic forms and examines sociological and cultural contexts. In recent years, I have been concerned with studying nature in urban environments and in political, social, and philosophical contexts. Photos by Stan Narten, photo display by Benny Or
