Sankofa is a West African term expressed as a mythic bird that flies forward while looking backward with an egg (symbolizing the future) in its mouth. This ties to the motto: “In order to understand our present and ensure our future, we must know our past.” I created this self portrait giving a nod to this symbol and its meaning. It's very much about where I am in my life at the moment. Linocut on RIves BFK
