“I think of these Scapegoat Idols as meditative talisman that facilitate a deliberate way of dealing with our own personal bias. I tell people to develop their own personal rituals and that they ought to hold the Scapegoat-Idol everyday and to make it a routine to deposit their negative thoughts and energies into the talisman as a way to rid oneself of destructive beliefs while confronting and abolishing our own deeply held prejudices about other people.” -Hoesy Corona SCAPEGOAT IDOLS (2013-Present) This series of sculpted talisman are a meditative exploration of the indoctrination into societal othering as a form of devoted practice. In it, the deity is the Scapegoat Idol, a figurative representation of internalized acts and subconscious thought processes that sacrifice individuals within a community for their Queer existences. The SCAPEGOAT IDOLS are handcrafted with earthen materials, comprised of clay to hold and transmute subdued or coveted biases through daily invocation.
