I think I'll Call it Morning, 2021

The first day of Juneteenth as a federal holiday in Chicago, was a very emotional and jubilant celebration. The sudden recognition as national holiday, left many of Black Americans excited but also energized for greater necessities regarding civil rights. During this celebration, dialogue from the large audience of citizens was a range of tears, laughter and a renewed pursuit of equality within economic endeavors, employment, the justice system and the general experiences of being an American. This was a day where the streets were filled with both love and joy, but also a reminder of the continued battles that come with being a person of color in the United States.
