11"x14" Cyanotype Print, Digital Edition of 7 (6/6 + AP). Archival Inkjet Print - Hahnemühle Photo Rag® Ultra Smooth. In the series Reconfigure, I combine a landscape image with a plate from Owen Jones’s 1866 book, The Grammar of Chinese ornament. Each image is printed as a digital negative, physically cut up into pieces, and arranged on a piece of paper coated with cyanotype chemicals. I combine the cyanotype process with the history of blue-and-white Chinese porcelain, speaking to a pervasive life of cobalt blue in photography and ceramics. By using both narratives of blue, I can combine a photographic archival practice with the speculative origins of blue-and-white ceramic designs. Because the negatives are collaged, there is no way to replicate the arrangements, which makes each print unique. This series was included in the solo show - Imagining the Artifact: Collaging Blue-and-White Chinese Pottery at Bard Graduate Center, Manhattan, NY, 2021.
