"Shimmer 5" by Denise Driscoll is a large-scale acrylic painting on canvas with layers of brightly colored interlocking forms in orange, teal, rose and blue that float over a flat white background. Each looping shape is covered with metallic and iridescent dots that sparkle with energy. The painting measures 76 x 66 x 1.5 inches. The image continues around the gallery-wrapped sides and is signed on the reverse. The “Shimmer” paintings begin with the notion that all living things—plants, animals and humans—are connected in an intricate mesh of being, yet each exists at the center of their own particular world. These simultaneous centers of lived experience swirl within and around us, piercing, enveloping, and permeating with or without our notice. Each painting is an imaginary map of exchange, a playful and hopeful record of our entanglement with other beings and each other.
