This painting began as a live performance at the Brooklyn Museum in conjunction with the Frida! exhibition in the Spring of 2019. Little Cinema invited me to paint two self-portraits live on stage, in the mirror, channeling Frida. I kept in mind the subject of duality and gender that she also investigated in her work. This painting deals with partnership, gender and yearning. I lived in Mexico City for two years (2009-11) developing a line of flourescent oil paints and I established a deep connection to Frida's Casa Azul and her life's work. This painting is to be stretched on a wooden or metal frame, or framed with flat backing. No editions, it is an original work.
