Much in the way that nature bombards us with blades of grass, snowflakes, and clouds, contemporary culture is in an open edition of iterative things that are converted into uniques by its consumers. The evidence, discarded commercial copies, such as a crushed beverage can, a crumpled Dunkin’ bag, and a smushed foil lid from a take-away lunch, not only underscores the skew of our values but also a moment of contradiction. Examining the life of a mechanical copy presents a means to reverse Marx’s commodity fetishism by elevating the ‘valueless’ through the lens of an investigation. We transform these identical copies into the paradigm of originality we seek…if only we would look. This print is 2 in an edition of 24.
