Leveraging Leonardo and so-called popular culture, Andrew Chan’s “The Tea Party” re-contextualizes objects from childhood in an evocatively menacing contemporary context. The engaging cast of characters, ranging from Mr Softie to a deformed animated tea cup, and encompassing serving plates with a vintage tin robot, dolls, plastic soldiers, and all manner of random objects, together suggest how our earliest memory works together with craven consumerism to constitute our personal identities.
